Head boy in 'knife brawl'

THE head boy of a posh private school has been arrested over allegations he wielded a kitchen knife at a student party.

Darryl Marfo, 18, who joined Pangbourne College in Berkshire on a sports scholarship, allegedly became involved in a dispute with a soldier at a party near Mons army barracks in Aldershot, Hants.

He and another 18-year-old, also a Pangbourne student, were arrested and questioned on suspicion of affray and bailed pending further police inquiries.

Mr Marfo was raised by his mother in a tower block in Pimlico, in Central London, before he joined the former nautical college from an inner city comprehensive in 2007.

The school’s “chief cadet captain” gained the scholarship for his talent as a rugby player and he has also turned out for the youth academy of Guinness Premiership side Harlequins.

Argument

A Hampshire Police spokesman said: “We were called to a public order incident at Reed Close in Aldershot at 1.30am on April 10, after an argument between some of the guests at a house party that got out of control.

“Two 18-year-old men - from Reading and London - were arrested on suspicion of affray, one on the night, and the second on April 14. Both have been bailed.

“The case remains under investigation and officers are following up some lines of inquiry.”

The spokesman added that the London teenager was bailed until June 3 and the Reading teen until June 5.

A school spokeswoman said: “We understand that there was an incident at a private party held during the holidays, the details of which remain unconfirmed.

"We are therefore not in a position to comment.”
