Building work is taking place around Coventry University to make way for the new student union building. The work is part of a £160m facelift and will become home to news shops, student union, student counselling and a brand new state of the art live music venue.

Councillor Gary Ridley, cabinet member of city development, said: “I believe that the Student Enterprise Building will be the heart of student activity in the city centre.

“It will be a one-stop-shop for students and the hub of social activity day and night.

“I think it will enhance the student experience in Coventry and is the first step of an exciting master plan which ties in with the city council’s overall plan for the city centre.”

The building will be on the former site of the newly demolished Frank Whittle building and is expected to entice new students and shoppers into the University. 250 jobs are expected to be created with the expected growth of the university, whilst raising the university’s yearly income to £200m.
