A STUDENT from Morpeth has been named one of the best in the country after scooping a gold medal in a national skills challenge.
Christopher Bradley, of Northumberland College, pitted his skills against four of the UK's most talented computer aided design (CAD) engineer students in the Worldskills UK final for Mechanical Engineering CAD.

The finalists – all winners of regional
heats from across the UK – had to undertake two days of intensive CAD exercises, which tested their abilities in areas including part and assembly modelling, drawing productions and animations.

Picking up the prestigious prize, Christopher, from Morpeth, said: "This was a very intensive heat and I had some tough competition so I was delighted to come away with a gold medal."

The 23-year-old design engineer, who works for Miller UK in Cramlington, has just completed a HNC in Manufacturing Engineering at the college.

Head of department for engineering, Muhsin Jumaa, said: "Christopher is an excellent student, who has excelled in computer aided design.

"He has made me and the rest of my team very proud and has demonstrated the high quality of training we offer our students."

Christopher got through to the national finals after competing against ten students from the north of England in a regional heat held at the Marine Design Centre in Newcastle in June.
